Acetate acetate is formed by the reaction of acetic acid with some metals, alkaline oxides and bases. The chemical formula of acetic acid is CH3COOH. Acetic acid is a colorless and pungent liquid with melting point of 16.6 ℃, boiling point of 117.87 ℃ and density of 1.0492g/cm3. Pure acetic acid can form ice like solid under 16.6 ℃, also known as glacial acetic acid. Acetic acid is soluble in water and many organic solvents. Acetic acid has strong corrosivity. Its aqueous solution has weak acidity. It can react with many active metals, alkaline oxides and bases to form acetate. Some acetate such as manganese acetate and aluminum acetate can be used as mordant in dyeing industry. There are two ways to produce acetic acid in industry: one is to ferment vinegar with grain or wine as raw material, which is commonly used in edible vinegar. Besides 3-6% acetic acid, edible vinegar also contains other organic acids and proteins. The other is the oxidation of ethylene (C2H4) or butane (C4H10) extracted from petroleum cracking gas to acetic acid under certain conditions. Acetic acid is an important organic chemical raw material, which is used to produce acetate fiber, spray paint solvent, perfume, dye, medicine and so on.
